Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja will attend the informal Gymnich meeting of EU Foreign Ministers in Copenhagen, Denmark, on 9–10 March.
During the two-day meeting the foreign ministers will discuss EU foreign policy in the current economic situation. Items on the agenda include the development of the European External Action Service, the European Security Strategy, and human rights issues, particularly women’s rights and freedom of religion.
In addition, foreign ministers will discuss how to enhance the impact of the EU foreign policy in countries of most importance to the Union. The discussion entails the EU’s closest partners, the development of EU sanctions policy, and prospects for greater coordination in the implementation of the Common Foreign and Security Policy.
